Is Cycling in Japan on your Bucket List? Do you need to stretch the legs while on a Business Trip? Well, you’re in the right place. Japan is an amazing country with so much to offer. Exploring the country, culture, food and landscapes from a bike is one of the best ways to see and experience authentic Japan. You’ll not only see destination A and destination B, but you’ll stumble upon all the hidden gems along the way which can make for the best moments of a journey.

Below is our simple guide for how to hire touring bikes with Road Bike Rental Japan. If you’ve got all the information you need and are ready to book your bikes, please see our collection of bikes and gear.

How to Reserve a Touring or Road Bike with Road Bike Rental Japan

Step 1: Know your preferred bike size and rental dates

Before you get started it is best to have a bike size in mind. As you may already know, height is very important when sizing up a comfortable bike. Please see the charts below to see what size is recommended for your height.

If you have confirmed dates in mind please read our FAQ (reach out via our Contact Page if you can’t find the answers you are looking for) and then continue to Step 2.

Step 2: Select your Bike

When you are ready to book, find the location from which you would like to start, RBRJ Osaka or RBRJ Kyoto, and select a Road Bike or Tour Bike you would like.

Once you find the bike you are interested, please click the ‘Book Now’ button.

Step 3: Select your Start Date

Select the ‘Start Date’ from the calendar on the right side of the screen. You will select the duration in the next step. (Greyed out dates indicate the bike is not available on your selected start date.)  Once again click ‘Book Now’.

Step 4: Select the length of your tour

Select the start date once more, and then select the end date. The rental rate per day is discounted for longer rentals automatically depending on the length of your rental.

Step 5: Select any Optional Extras

Some cyclists may want to bring their own panniers which is also fine. All of our touring bikes can have a rack attached which most, if not all, panniers will attach to. Other extras are available to select at this stage of the booking as well:

Step 6: Fill in your details for each Cyclist

Fill in the details for each cyclists.

Click the 'Make another booking' button at the top of the checkout page if you want to add more bikes or gear to your rental hire.

For questions on details such as PEDALS (Shimano SPD-SL, Shimano MTB, Look Keo, Flat/Normal or Bring your Own), PICK UP TIME, RETURN TIME and HEIGHT please refer to the FAQ. Additional charges my apply for pick up and drop off times outside of normal operating hours.

If you are unsure of your dates, do not see the bike available during the dates your planning, have particular questions about ‘Optional Extras’ such as pannier dimensions or Large Luggage Storage, or just need further help planning your trip please feel free to contact us via our Contact Page at any time. You can also leave requests in the ‘Special Requirements’ field when booking online. We should get back to you within a day or two. Please understand that Spring and Autumn are peak cycling seasons in Japan, so there may be slight delays in returning your contact during those times.

Pick up your bike and enjoy your cycling in Japan

Start day of your tour: Come to Road Bike Rental Japan to pick up your bikes and gear (unless you are using the courier service for pick-up)

The next step is to come to Road Bike Rental Japan to pick up your bikes. We’ll arrange a time to meet prior to your starting date so please do your best to come at the agreed time.

We will get you on your bike and make sure you are comfortable with the heights and dimensions. Before leaving, we will do any adjustments (seat height for example) that you might need in order to be as comfortable as possible. We do provide a multi-tool with each rental so feel free to make any adjustments to the seat or handlebars while on your journey.

We can store luggage however there may be an additional charge for larger luggage. Please select Large luggage Storage during the ‘Optional Extras’ step above.

Once you are packed and ready to roll we usually take a photo for our social media profiles so be sure to bring your best smile 🙂 We understand not everyone wants their photo posted on social media accounts so please just let us know and we will skip the photo shoot.

The final step after your adventure is to bring the bike back on the agreed date. Have a rest and tell us all about your journey and then go out and enjoy a cold drink and some delicious Japanese food, you would have earned it!​
